Artist's Statement

In the fall of 2003, I was working a full time job for a Boston law firm as a bio-tech patent legal assistant.  To unwind at night, I would crochet intricate lace doilies, a technique taught to me by my grandmother.  Due to severe carpel tunnel, I gave up this outlet in the fall of 2003 and started dabbling in jewelry.  At this point, I did not feel that I had any original artistic creativity or talent, but as I grew, so did my confidence.  By May of 2004, I was mesmerized by the myriad shapes and textures of semi-precious stones, the swirls, curves and wisps of glass, and geometric tapestry of everything falling in harmony.  Adorned by Amato^© was born, and I dedicated myself full time to my passion.

I started by designing for myself.  Unable to manage most clasps due to carpel tunnel, arthritis and fibromyalgia I fell in love working with jewelry quality stretch material.  I observed other people who had this problem.  For many, their solution was going without jewelry or wearing simple, single stranded costume jewelry, many which consisted of unflattering plastic and resin beads.  I developed a unique, double strung design, the Adorned by Amato Signature Collection^©, selecting from a wide variety of glass, crystal, metals and semi semi-precious stones.  People comment often on my eye for color combinations.  The design process of each and every piece is a time-consuming process.  Sometimes I just sit and gaze between two selections for one creation from my large inventory of beads and stones.  I don’t tell the creation when it is right; my creation tells me.

As the AbA^© Signature Collection grew in popularity, I stepped up observing and listening.  The most significant insight: not only does one size not fit all, but many did not want to wait for custom sizing.  I started keeping in stock a wide selection of sizes, from extra small to extra large, as well continuing custom sizing.  How gratifying to hear the words “I can’t believe I found something I love in the perfect size”!  The next insight:  Once my customers started using the AbA Signature Collection^© they looked for a wide variety of selection and style; from high-end pearls and Swarovski crystals for more formal wear, to a lower-end, casual, everyday look.

I am the sole creator of each piece, and feel immense satisfaction knowing that each of my pieces is truly unique and of professional quality.  Creating my jewelry gives me the opportunity to lose myself in my work each and every day and live within a very serene environment, which rekindles my creativity and joy each day.
